Prepare for your first appointment
A practical checklist for private appointments, WorkCover and TAC rehabilitation at Muscle Joint Bone Epping.
Describe the problem before choosing a technique
Tell reception where symptoms occur, when they began and whether you have already received medical advice. If you have a preferred practitioner or need continuity of care, mention this when booking. An appointment is an opportunity to assess the problem; you do not need to diagnose yourself first.
Check the appointment type and practitioner availability through Muscle Joint Bone’s booking service. Ask reception when you are unsure which service to select.
Bring a useful account of your symptoms
- When the problem started and whether there was an injury.
- What makes symptoms better or worse.
- Relevant health conditions, operations and medicines.
- Reports and imaging results you already have.
- Previous treatment and how you responded.
- The activities you want to return to.
For care after surgery, bring your surgeon’s instructions. You do not need to arrange scans simply to prepare for an appointment. Wear clothing that allows comfortable movement and ask beforehand if you have access or communication needs.
For WorkCover or TAC
Have your claim number, insurer or agent, injury date and approval information ready. Explain whether the claim is accepted or pending, whether you have a referral and when you last received funded treatment.
Use the separate WorkCover and TAC guides to prepare service-specific questions. Check the details for your own claim with the responsible scheme.
Ask about costs before agreeing to care
Ask for the consultation fee, possible gap, direct-billing arrangements and cancellation requirements. If approval is pending, clarify who will pay and whether reimbursement can be assumed. Equipment, reports, group sessions and gym programmes may have separate costs or approval requirements.
For private health or other funding arrangements, confirm eligibility, referral requirements and available benefits with your insurer or the relevant scheme. A clinic offering a service does not establish your entitlement to a rebate.
During the appointment
Your clinician should explain the assessment findings, uncertainty and options. You can ask about expected benefits, relevant risks and alternatives. Consent can be revisited; you may decline a technique or ask for a pause.
Before leaving, clarify any exercises, what response to expect, which changes need advice and how progress will be reviewed. A useful plan should fit your daily responsibilities and available time.
Sharing reports and finding the clinic
Contact reception before sending health records so it can explain the appropriate secure method. For a professional referral, include the reason, relevant history, precautions, functional goals and service requested, with the patient’s appropriate consent.
