Pillows, supports & supplements
Ask useful questions before buying a wellbeing product, and check how it fits your needs, medicines and care plan.
Begin with the problem you want to solve
Before choosing a pillow, support or other comfort product, describe the difficulty you want to address. Ask about fit, trial periods, returns and cleaning. A product name or a premium price does not diagnose the cause of pain. Seek assessment for ongoing symptoms rather than repeatedly buying replacements without a clear goal.
Supplements are medicines too
Vitamins can help with specific needs, but they can also cause side effects and interact with medicines. Include supplements in the list you show your doctor or pharmacist, particularly before surgery. Ask whether there is a demonstrated need and how long a proposed course should continue.
Check the label and the total intake
The TGA recommends checking the AUST number on the label. Different regulatory categories involve different scrutiny; a label is not proof that every advertised claim applies to you. Watch for duplicate ingredients across products. Vitamin B6 can cause peripheral neuropathy, including tingling, burning or numbness, even with lower-dose products or several products used together. Stop the implicated B6 supplement and seek healthcare advice if these symptoms develop.
Bring these questions
- What is the intended benefit for my situation?
- Could the ingredients interact with my medicines?
- Am I already taking the same ingredient elsewhere?
- What should make me stop and seek advice?
